Guinevere Isla

Guinevere Isla is a Sydney-based artist born on Dharug and Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains. Her practice is materially driven, using printmaking and drawing to explore the themes of nostalgia and grief. She examines the notions of memory and loss through her interactions with objects, time and place. She grapples with her personal experiences with the feeling of absence, utilising the inherently illustrative feel of etching to further communicate and depict this human experience. Interested in the relationship between the body and clothing, Guinevere examines how identity and memories can be revealed through the tactile and visual qualities of clothing. Her works create an entryway into a certain feeling, time and place sparking nostalgia through the universal experience of grief and remembrance.
